The latest Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) figures for food establishments in Telford and Wrekin have revealed nearly half have achieved the highest level with many in Wellington hitting top marks. That’s really good news for the town!

The Food Standards Agency/local authority partnership initiative called FHRS is designed to help consumers choose where to eat out, or shop, for food wherever they are. It is a nationwide scheme. All food outlets are checked by Environmental Health and graded on a scale of zero to five. Five being the best! The establishments are checked for compliance based on food hygiene and safety, structure and cleaning and confidence in management and control systems. You can view all ratings at www.food.gov.uk/ratings.

Certificates and window stickers are allocated to premises showing their scores, so look out for these wherever you are. Plus, before you choose where to eat or buy food from, visit the website www.food.gov.uk/ratings.

Cllr Hilda Rhodes, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Environmental Health, said: “it is really encouraging to see that 18 out of the 49 recent FHRS inspections were graded with the top score Level Five. This is positive news for all our residents and visitors to the area.
